To ensure that your pasta absorbs the flavour of the sauce, toss the cooked pasta immediately after draining the water. Cooked pasta absorbs flavour best when hot. 

Fenugreek Kashaya

Ingredients

  • Fenugreek Seeds – 3 Tablespoons
  • Caraway Seeds (Ajwain) – 1 Tablespoon
  • Poppy Seeds (Khus Khus)- 3 Tablespoons
  • Barley – 3 Tablespoons
  • Boiled Rice – 3 Tablespoons

Method

  • Put all the ingredients in a pan and roast till the rice starts popping.
  • Allow the mixture to cool and grind into fine powder and store it in an airtight jar.

Preparing the Kashaya

  • Boil one glass (200 ml) of water and add one teaspoon of the powder and keep boiling till the water content is reduced to half.
  • Strain this liquid and add milk and sugar, just as you make tea.

Should be consumed once a day after food for one month.

  • This is an effective remedy to arrest bleeding (spotting) during pregnancy.
  • Drinking this mildly flavoured Kashaya greatly benefits expectant mothers to build their immune system and get over nausea and heartburns.
  • The fenugreek in this drink also helps fight gestational diabetes by regulating blood sugar levels.
  • Barley, with its diuretic properties, helps flush out the excess fluids in the body, thus keeping swelling under control.
  • Poppy seeds are an excellent source of energy since they contain carbohydrates. They’re rich in omega-3 fatty acids which is essential for the brain development of the fetus.
