If you're generally a healthy person, there's no reason why you shouldn't travel when you're pregnant. Yet, it is important that you take basic precautions.
Eat well-cooked meals. Don't take salads or raw food. Make sure the place you travel to has enough medical facilities. Don't travel to places of high altitude during the end of your pregnancy lest you find it difficult to breathe. And take your vaccines before you travel.
Air travel:
The second trimester of your pregnancy is the safest time to travel by air. Make sure you don't take your journey any time during the last 6 weeks before your delivery. In the case of a emergency, if you have to travel after your second trimester, make sure you see a doctor first. Get a letter from your doctor stating your due date as airlines are quite strict and don't usually let you fly if you're more than 28 weeks into your pregnancy.
When flying at any time during your pregnancy, take the following general precautions. Make sure you drink a lot of fluids. Book seats with more leg room and walk around on the flight whenever possible to avoid blood clots on your feet.
Rail/ Road travel:
You are usually allowed to travel by car or train at any time of your pregnancy. Avoid very bumpy rides and if you are traveling to a place a long way off, make sure you stretch your legs and walk around atleast every two hours. It is best if you avoid traveling during the first trimester of your pregnancy. If you're traveling by car, make sure you wear your seat belt under your tummy and not over it.
