Love-making when ExpectingArticle

  • Sex is safe if you are having a normal pregnancy
  • But your sexual desire fluctuates during certain stages of pregnancy
  • Communicate your likes and dislikes to your partner

Love-making when ExpectingThis is a topic that is not often talked about. If you are undergoing a low risk pregnancy, having sex is considered safe at any stage of your pregnancy. A normal low risk pregnancy is that which does not involve a history of miscarriage or pre-term labor. Consult your doctor and make sure you don't come under the above categories.

If you're having a normal pregnancy, you won't be causing any harm to your baby by making love, even with your partner on top. A thick mucus plug seals the cervix and helps guard you and your baby against any infection. The strong muscles of the uterus and the amniotic sac also protect your baby. Though you may feel contractions during or after sex, it's because of your racing heartbeat and not because your baby is feeling pain. Then again, just because sex is allowed during your pregnancy doesn't necessarily mean you'll want to have it. Many pregnant women become moody about sex in different stages of pregnancy. It is not only that sex becomes uncomfortable for women as their bodies become larger but also that they're preoccupied with the approaching delivery and the excitement of becoming a new mother.

You and your partner need to communicate openly about your sexual relationship, as you will definitely see a change in it when you are pregnant. Talk about other ways to satisfy your need for intimacy, such as kissing, caressing, and holding each other. You also may need to experiment with other positions for sex and find out which ones are comfortable for you

When is it not safe? When you are engage in oral sex, your partner should not blow air into your vagina. Also you should not have sex with a partner who may have a sexually transmitted disease, such as herpes, genital warts or HIV.
